Nummy Cauliflower and Cabbage Curry; Healthy as well as Delicious.

There is a new community on Goggle+, started by Dr. John Cassone, who is challenging those who join to a 2 week cleanse. The cleanse cuts out all grains, sugars and starches from one’s diet, which is more of a challenge than you’d expect, but doable. If interested, ‘Week One: -Eliminate all grains, starches, and sugars (rice, potatoes, corn, pasta, bread, cookies, crackers, chips, sodas, sweets, etc), no beans -Coffee limited to morning cup (no sweetener) -Alcohol limited to weekends (low carb – e.g. vodka soda water lemon; no beer/wine) – Eat unlimited fruits and veggies but try to eat twice as many veggies as fruits -Less (but allowed) meat, cheese, nuts, and seeds (sauces/condiments minimally) Week Two: -Same -Must pick one day and eat only fruits and veggies.

I found this recipe, which easily fits into the diet parameters, in a Gluten free cookbook, ‘Celebrating Food’ by Susan Gauen. Enjoy.

2 Tbsp Olive Oil or oil of choice

1 Tbsp. minced garlic

1/2 Tbsp. minced ginger

1 Cup chopped yellow onion

3/4 tsp turmeric

2 Tsp. garam Masala (might have to go to a spice shop)

1 Tsp. chili powder (or paste, which I used)

3 Cups Cauliflower, cut into 1/2-inch pieces

2 Cups shredded cabbage

1/2 Cup Carrots, in 1/4-inch slices

1 bunch green onions, in 1/4 inch slices

Cilantro leaves for garnish (optional)

Heat the oil in a medium nonstick frying pan over medium head and add the garlic, ginger and onions. When the onions start sizzling, cook them for 8 to 10 minutes or until they are golden brown. Add the spices and salt and turn the heat up to medium-high. Saute the onions for an additional minute. Add the cauliflower and saute it for 2 minutes or until it starts to brown. Add the cabbage and carrots. Saute the mixture for about 4 minutes. The cabbage will start to wilt. Turn the head to medium before adding the green onions. Allow the vegetables to cook until they are gender, about 6-8 minutes.

  1. This dish certainly does look nummmy…right up my alley!
Every 6 months for the past 11 years I’ve done the Paleo Cleanse for 28 days which is a liver & kidney cleanse that eliminates gluten, sugar, dairy, caffeine & alcohol. Free range chicken & turkey, wild salmon & fish & organic vegetables & fruit are the foods of choice. It was a challenge at first but quite easy now with planning ahead & I look forward to it as it makes me feel healthy & in control with more energy, better focus & I sleep well. I end up easing back into my old ways but it’s like a good oil change twice a year. Looks like the “Cauliflower & Cabbage Curry” will fit right into this Cleanse as well & I’m looking forward to having another delicious & healthy option to try! Thanks for sharing. : )

    • Thank you Sea Tea!! Fasting/Cleansing routine isn’t easy to follow with occasional slip ups on my part but still going at it. Glad you find this process beneficial on occasion as well. It certainly tests one’s discipline!!
